The monitoring team of the Local Government Service Commission on Friday visited Eti Osa Local Government to perform one of their oversight functions.
Salient issues were addressed by the commissioners. Honorable Olabode Garbadeen while addressing the Staff stated that it is mandatory for every staff to carry a Valid ID card for proper identification. He appealed to the staff to also partake in the Health Insurance Scheme as it is of immense benefit to all. He touched on the fact that most staff are yet to familiarize themselves with the Public Service rules emphasizing that studying it would guide everyone on the rules and regulations of the Lagos State Government as it affects Civil Service. He noted that indiscipline such as truancy, lateness to work, abscondment and falsification of documents will not be tolerated. Reaffirming that the little delay in salary is to enable the government effect the minimum wage, Commissioner Gabadeen admonished the staff to justify the increment by turning a new leaf to their job because to whom much is given, much is equally expected.
Also addressing the Staff was Commissioner Rasheed Giwa representing Lagos Constituency, who sought for update on compliance level of some stipulated standard operating processes like cashless policies and Procurement plans which was reported fairly good.
He stressed the need for periodic medical check up for all staff at least quarterly. stating that early detection of simple ailment which can lead to life threatening deseases when left untreated can be avoided.
He talked on mentoring of new staff by their Head of Departments and units seemingy necessary, as it is a sign of good leadership and capacity development. He cited the Public Affairs Unit as being exemplary in such practice. He also advised the staff on the Upcoming NULGE election, enjoining everyone to embrace peace.
The Director, Human Resource LGSC, Mr. Kola Ogunnaike lectured the staff on the procedures of Application for Annual Leave.
The Chairman who was ably represented by the Vice Chairman Omoba Adeola Adetoro Adeyanju thanked the monitoring team for coming and promised to work on all the points that where raised especially on the periodic health check up for staff as she also doubles as the Supervisor for health.
The Council Manager Mr HIK Buhari responded to questions earlier raised, stating that junior staff welfare and training is being improved upon gradually. He mentioned that the newly employed staff have been well integrated into the system and are justifying their employment.
The HRO Mr Nojeem Enitan who gave the vote of thanks applauded the commissioners, he made it known that the staff attitude to work and punctuality is commendable and would not for any reason compromise the ethics of the job..
